Anglo Belgian Corp. has launched a new engine range that expands the company’s market to larger vessels, including ferries and military ships.
The Ghent-based engine maker is introducing the DL36 range, which will also be aimed at coasters, offshore vessels, dredgers and large tugboats. With the new 8DL36 offering up to 5.2 MW at 750 r/min, and the soon-to-follow vee versions (up to 10.4 MW), ABC said it will be able to supply all major shipyards with solutions for any type or size of vessel.
The company added that the DL36 range will also allow it to be competitive in the 20 to 80 MW power plant range.
The company’s existing DX and DZ engine ranges fill the 150 kW to 4 MW power range aimed at the coastal, fishing, dredging, patrol boat, tug and inland transportation vessel markets. They are also used in power plants up to 30 MW and in locomotives with the DZ engines inline or in vee configuration.
With a bore x stroke of 365 x 420 mm, the DL36 will deliver 650 kW per cylinder at 750 r/min. Featuring exhaust gas recirculation and twostage turbocharging, ABC said the engine has a “radically optimized” common rail system with emissions levels designed to meet IMO 3 requirements without a catalyst.
For applications not requiring IMO 3, a full mechanical version is available. The new engine can also use various fuels including MDO, HFO, dual-fuel and biofuels. The six- and eight-cylinder inline engines will focus mainly on the marine market with the vee engines (12 and 16 cylinders) aiming at the larger generator set applications for power plants.
The six-cylinder model will be available in the second half of 2013, with the eight-cylinder version coming in 2014. Within the DL36 range, six models are to be offered, from the DL36-600 producing 3.12 MW at 600 r/min up to the DL36-750 providing 5.2 MW at 750 r/min.
