Belgian medium speed engine company ABC has launched a new engine at SMM in Hamburg. The 6DL36 is rated at up to 5,299bhp at 750rpm and is said to comply with IMO Tier III without the need for external catalysts.

The DL36 introduction marks 100 years of engine production for ABC, the company having been established in 1912 with the support of Dr Rudolf Diesel. The 6DL36 is available for propulsion in 4,239bhp, 5087bhp and 5,299bhp ratings at 600rpm, 720rpm and 750rpm respectively. Equivalent ratings for gensets are available.

Deliveries of the 6-cylinder engine are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2013, with an 8-cylinder inline version to follow in 2014, and V-format versions promised for the future. The DL36 sits at the top of ABC's existing portfolio, comprising the DX and DZ ranges, which cover power requirements from 150kW to 4,000kW.

According to ABC, the use of an optimised common-rail fuel system with two-stage turbocharging and exhaust gas recirculation will allow the DL36 to meet IMO Tier III without the need for SCR, and with negligible adverse effect on fuel consumption. Dual fuel and bio-fuel versions are promised.
