30/05/2011 Successful re-powering of tug "ANGLIAN LADY" with ABC-Diesel engines
After the repeated failure of 1 old Deutz type SBA V12 528 propulsion diesel engine in the Anglian Lady Tug, president of Purvis Marine Limited., Sault St. Marie Canada, Jack Purvis, opted for the replacement with 2 new ABC Medium Speed Diesel engines 6DZC.
The vessel was built in 1973 and was fitted with new ABC medium speed 4 Tak diesel engines delivering 1400 kW @ 900 rpm each. These engines are equipped with turbo charger and intercooler, have a stroke of 310 mm and 256 mm bore. This is the equivalent of 15.95 liters displacement per cylinder. These engines are compliant with the todays IMO-Tier II emission standards which became effective from 1st of January 2011.
When asked why Jack Purvis chose ABC engines he was pretty determined in his answer: "I knew about the excellent reputation which ABC engines have in Europe, it was important for me to invest in a reliable product. The engine fitted well into the engine room design and the foundations of the hull supported the new engine. It was almost a 1/1 exchange of the engines. I must say we are very pleased with the cooperation, response and support received from ABC throughout every stage of this project. Over the last period we build up an excellent relationship with the very experienced staff of ABC`s factory in Gent."
The manufacturer, Anglo Belgian Corporation in Gent Belgia, introduced its brand for the first time in Canada. Ir.Tim Berckmoes managing director stated: "For us is it a unique opportunity to enter the Canadian market with our products. The engine is the heart of a vessel. Without a reliable and durable engine that does its job in any situation, the owner would have a troubled mind.
By choosing for the DZC engines Purvis Marine has chosen for a much better fuel economy, increased reliability, lower operational cost and increased value of the vessel.
Choosing an engine is one thing, choosing the right partner for this kind of job is crucial".
According to our supporting consultant in Canada, RAD-Power, is Jack Purvis extremely pleased with the results of this first ABC re-powering project in Canada. Re-powering has proven to be a cost-saving solution to boost the performance of this Tug.
ABC has produced engines since 1912 and has managed to deal with macro-economic influences over a period of almost 100 years. Continued innovations have made Anglo Belgian Corporation into one of the important European manufacturers of Diesel, HFO and dual-fueled medium speed engines, as well as generator sets for today's global energy industry.
